Abstract : The number of studies dealing with physiological demands of female athletes is rather small in comparison to
those for male athletes. Hence the purpose of the current study was to investigate the strength, speed and some physical
properties in 11-15 age girl athletes. Forty-six girl athletes (age: 12.4 ± 1.4 years, height: 152.5 ± 9.8 cm, weight: 43.6 ±
11.0 kg) volunteered to participate in this study. The participants were members of the football and basketball teams who
were trained for 2 hours per day, five days a week. After collecting the anthropometric data [measurements of 8 skinfold
thicknesses: brachial, biceps brachial, suprailiac, supraspinale, abdominal, subscapular, anterior thigh, and calf skinfold
thicknesses; calculations the sum of 8 skinfolds, the body density and body fat using the equation of Durnin and Womersley
(1974) (Body density = 1.1369-0.0598logΣ4 skin-folds) and the equation of Siri (1956) (BF = (4.95/body density-4.5) ×
100)], the hand grip isometric strength, squat jump, counter movement jump and 10, 20, and 30 meter speed performance
were measured. The mean values of hand grip strength were recorded as 19.1 ± 5.8 kg for right hand and 18.5 ± 5.4 kg for
left hand. The mean values of SJ and CMJ performance were recorded as 21.9 ± 2.9 cm and 23.6 ± 3.6 cm respectively. The
mean values of 10, 20, and 30-meter speed performance were 2.1 ± 0.2, 3.7 ± 0.3, and 5.4 ± 0.5 respectively. For all
examined variables, it appears that the bio-motoric properties (hand grip strength, jumping and speed performance) had a
significant relationship with the physical properties (age, height, weight and BMI) (p<0.01). However, while the hand grip
strength values had significant relationship with skinfold thicknesses, the jumping and speed performance values did not
have significant relationship with skinfold thicknesses; except, the negative significant correlation between 10, 20, and 30-
meter speed performance values and suprailiac skinfold thickness (r = -0.315, -0.360, -0.390; p < 0.05 and 0,01). In
conclusion, using the simple and cheap methods to evaluate sportive performance may help the coaches to improve athletes’
performance as a result of the significant relationship between different bio-motoric and physical properties.
